Grover Lee Holmes, 77, of Washington, died Sunday, February 22, 2009, in The Washington Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
He was born July 2, 1931, in Washington, a son of Grover Cleveland and Marie
Allen Holmes.
Mr. Holmes served in the U.S. Army and was a caretaker at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church for many years.
Mr. Holmes was Protestant by faith and enjoyed gardening.
On December 1, 1979, he married Avella Jusko, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Robert (Anita) Calvert, of Claysville, and Roger (Debra) Calvert, of Florida; three sisters, Twila Moore, Frances Salisbury, and Shirley Moore; two grandchildren, Amy Nicole Calvert and Bob Calvert; a great granddaughter, Bryanna Goodwin; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a sister.
Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, where services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2009, with Pastor Floyd Marasco officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
