Willard W. Hartley, 88, of Washington, died Saturday, October 3, 2009, in Washington Hospital.
He was born December 26, 1920, in Dallas, West Virginia, a son of A. Earl and Verna V. Hartley.
Mr. Hartley graduated from McDonald High School in 1936.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II, receiving an Honorable Discharge on December 26, 1945.
Mr. Hartley worked at Kress Box and Brockway, as an operator, for more than thirty-nine years. He was a member of the Glass Bottle Association and served as secretary for several years.
Mr. Hartley was a member of West Washington United Methodist Church for fifty years, where he served on the Board of Trustees and various other committees of the church.
He enjoyed collecting coins and deer hunting.
On May 24, 1957, he married Ilene E. Chambers, who survives.
Also surviving are his children, Connie (Jerry) Vonscio and Willard “Lock” Hartley III, both of Washington, Judith E. LeMaster, of Joffre, Barbara (Jim) Richardson, of Washington, David P. (Beverly) Jochynek and Mary Ellen “Missy” (Gary) Six, both of Claysville; three sisters, Joan (Lloyd) Wise, of Kentucky, Betty Culley, of Oakdale, and Kay Wise, of Washington; seventeen grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren.
Deceased are three brothers, Carl Hartley, Virgil Hartley and Dorsey Dale Hartley; and a sister, Naomi Hillman; an infant son, Robert Lee Jochynek, and granddaughter, Mary E. Baumgardner, a great grandson, Dougie Baumgardner, and a great granddaughter, Kelsie Hritz.
Friends will be received 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 E. Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2009, with the Rev. John Hoffman officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to the West Washington United Methodist Church, Renovation Fund, 625 Fayette Street, Washington, PA 15301.
