Viola Leanna Kraeer

Viola Leanna Kraeer, 89, of Hickory, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009, in Washington County Health Center. She was born February 19, 1920, in Hickory, a daughter of the late Brady Wilford and Annie Schaeffer Ahrns. Mrs. Kraeer was born and lived her entire life on the family farm in Mt. Pleasant Township. She graduated from Hickory High School in 1939. For more than 20 years, she was the co-owner of Clayton’s Dress Shop in McDonald. Mrs. Kraeer was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Canonsburg, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School. She also enjoyed playing cards, traveling, and peeling apples for the Hickory Apple Festival. On December 9, 1945, she married Thomas O. Kraeer, who died May 31, 2002. Surviving are two sons, Thomas A. (Linda) Kraeer of Burke, Virginia, and David B. (Jill) Kraeer of Hickory; and two grandchildren, David T. and Lindsey L. Kraeer, both of Hickory. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 7th, with Pastor Jeff Marquis officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory.
