E. Dale Jones

E. Dale Jones, 82, of Washington, Pennsylvania, died Monday, December 29, 2008, in Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland. He was born March 4, 1926, in Frankfort, Missiouri, a son of Harrison D. and Wilma Horne Jones. He spent his early years in Mexico, Missouri. Mr. Jones graduated from Mexico (Missouri) High School in 1943, and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from University of Kansas City and a Masters of Science Degree from Columbia University in New York. For over 40 years, Mr. Jones was associated with the American Red Cross, first as a social worker then as Executive Director of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Red Cross. After retirement, he served as director of Hospice of Washington County (Pennsylvania). Also during retirement, Mr. Jones volunteered at the Washington Hospital in Washington Pennsylvania and for Meals on Wheels. He was a member of Daylily and Iris Society. Mr. Jones was Presbyterian and was a member of Center Presbyterian Church in McMurray, Pennsylvania. Mr. Jones enlisted in the United States Navy on February 24, 1944, and served until his honorable discharge on June 14, 1946, with a rank of Storekeeper, second class. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the American Campaign Medal. On October 5, 1957, he married Marjorie Baker, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Douglas Seward (Lori) Jones of Ellicott City, Maryland; a daughter, Victoria Ruth (Michael) McCarty of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Ruth Coppage and Jeanne Phillips; and two grandchildren, Zachary Thomas McCarty and Caroline Ruth McCarty. Deceased are a brother, Donald Douglas Jones; and three sisters, Doris Jones Watts, Anna Jones Kinder and Zella Marie Jones. Friends will be received Noon to 2 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 5th, in Center Presbyterian Church, McMurray. Burial will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Memorial donations may be to Center Presbyterian Church, 255 Center Church Road, McMurray PA 15317.
