Melvin Leroy “Bo” Gregg, 78, of Hickory, died unexpectedly, Saturday, October 10, 2009, in The Washington Hospital.
He was born August 10, 1931, in Washington, a son of Sherman and Naomi Campbell Gregg.
Mr. Gregg was an over-the-road truck driver for various trucking companies. He enjoyed golfing and following youth sports and, at one time, had played men’s softball.
Mr. Gregg was a veteran of the United States Army, serving with Company M of the 4th Infantry. He enlisted on September 8, 1948, and was honorably discharged on July 14, 1952, as a Private, First Class.
Mr. Gregg was a member of Cecil American Legion Post 793.
On April 25, 1955, he married Juanita Haught, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Douglas (Kathleen) Gregg of Hickory, Howard Gregg and Danny (Victoria) Gregg, both of Washington; a daughter, Pamela (Don) McNary of Washington; one brother, David Gregg of Southview; and four grandchildren, Joshua Gregg, Cody Gregg, Brianna Gregg and Ali McNary.
Deceased are a brother, Charles Gregg, and a sister, Emma Jean Robinson.
Friends will be received Monday form 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 11th, with Rev. Ray Fosnight officiating. Military honors will be performed by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion at the funeral home following the service.
