Lawrence I. Martin, 81, of Washington, died Sunday, August 30, 2009, in his home following a two month illness.
He was born in Lone Pine on November 1, 1927, a son of Piercy and Louella Cooper Martin.
Mr. Martin served in the United States Army and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and was a member of American Legion Post # 175 and VFW # 927.
Throughout his life, he worked in the produce departments of A & P stores for more than thirty years and later in Shop’n Save for a total of 16 ½ years. He is a member of the Friendship Community Church; he enjoyed country music, fishing, hunting, and antique cars.
On June 27, 1992, he married Theresa E. Paulin who survives. Also surviving are a son, Dennis I. ( Linda ) Martin of Washington; two daughters Barbara Martin of Erie and Kathleen M. Martin of Beaver Falls; a step son Michael Parish of New Jersey; and two step daughters, Carol Mackin of Tucson, Arizona and Barbara Yates of Florida; grandchildren, Jamie, Donald, Rachael, Joshua, Kody, Travis, and Nathan; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Caleb, and Donny.
Preceding Mr. Martin in death are a son, James Randall Martin and a brother, Delmer Martin.
Friends of Lawrence I. Martin, 81, of Washington, who died Sunday, August 30, 2009, will be received on Monday, from 7 to 9 PM and Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at 11:00 AM, Pastor Rick Bruckner officiating. Burial will follow in Claysville Cemetery. Full military honors will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post # 175, American Legion.
