Barbara Pauline “Babs” McKibben Nicholas, 73, of Washington, died Thursday, January 8, 2009, in Donnell House. She was a two-time survivor of breast cancer.
She was born August 20, 1935, in Zanesville, Ohio, a daughter of the late Harry Kibe “Sam” Ullom and Agnes Pauline Nelson Ullom.
Mrs. Nicholas attended Chartiers Schools. She was a homemaker but had worked as a waitress and short order cook in local area restaurants.
Mrs. Nicholas loved her dog, Lace.
Surviving are two sons, Arthur C. (Shana) Nicholas of Summerville, South Carolina, and Robert “Kibe” (Kimberly) Nicholas of Washington; three daughters, Diana (Dan) Kelley of Washington, Barbara K. Nicholas of Wilkinsburg and Trudi Toward of Washington; two sisters, Dixie Lee (D.J. “Sonny”) Avolia of Hickory and Catherine “Kate” (Ron) Deyell of Washington; nine grandchildren, Jeremiah Crowe, Ashley and Trudi Nicholas, Carl Robert and Daniel “Scooter” Kelley, Kibey and Brittney Nicholas, and Brook and Bobbi Toward; and three great-grandchildren, Natalee Nichole, Chance Austin and Hayden Thomas.
Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Noon to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 12th. Burial will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory.
