James Michael Yusko, 62, of Claysville, died Sunday, January 11, 2009, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born August 23, 1946, in Washington, PA., a son of Joseph Anthony and Nellie Golubowsky Yusko.
After graduating high school, Mr. Yusko joined the United States Navy, serving from September 9, 1964, until his honorable discharge on September 10, 1968. He served aboard the USS Kretchmer and the USS Prichett and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze star and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device. He still enjoyed attending Navy reunions.
Mr. Yusko attended Allegheny Tech for three years. He worked as a technician at Stenger Business Systems in Wheeling for 28 ½ years and was an I.A.M. union representative there.
Mr. Yusko was a member of and very active in Central Assembly of God Church in Houston, as well as active in assisting other churches, and was a past commander of West Alexander Legion.
He enjoyed gardening, working with his hands, and helping others.
Mr. Yusko had been a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader and was involved with their food drives and white water rafting trips. He also helped several scouts earn their Eagle Badges.
On April 11, 1970, he married Judith E. Anderson, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Jay Yusko of Claysville; a daughter, Julie Yusko of Washington; two sisters, Patricia Douglas of Claysville and Barbara Hart of Glendale, West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two brothers, Robert and John Yusko.
Friends will be received 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 15, in Central Assembly of God Church, Houston, with Rev. Steven Getchell officiating. Burial will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Miitary rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion, Post 656, West Alexander.
