Margaret M. Townsend, 94, of Washington, formerly of Sun City Center, Florida, died Saturday, September 12, 2009, in the Washington Hospital.
She was born December 20, 1914, in Cisco, California, a daughter of Albert Earl and Amy Grannis Miller.
Mrs. Townsend was a 1933 graduate of Hickory High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1937 form the College of Wooster. She was a homemaker and taught school part-time in Somerville, New Jersey.
She was Presbyterian.
On December 18, 1936, she married Albert M. Townsend, who died May 26, 1998.
Surviving are two sons, John Albert Townsend of Washington and Alden Miller “Dennyâ€쳌 Townsend of Crofton, Maryland; six grandchildren, William Townsend, Kelly Townsend, Jeffrey B. Townsend, David A. Townsend, Kristin Townsend and Megan Townsend Bennett; and nine great-grandchildren, Haven Townsend, Hadden Townsend, Blake Bennett, Brooke Bennett, Colton Townsend, Pierce Townsend, Daryn Rostic, Alayna Rostic and Samuel Rostic.
Deceased are a son, Timothy Townsend, who died February 10, 1977; and two brothers, Lewis Albert Miller and Delvin Glenn Miller.
There will be no public visitation or services. William G. Neal Funeral Home, Ltd., is in charge of arrangements.
