William P. Shriver, Sr., 79, of Prosperity, died Tuesday, September 15, 2009, in Donnell House.
He was born June 29, 1930, in Washington, a son of Leslie D. and Helen Hart Shriver.
An employee of Plasteel for 42 years, he worked as a crew director in their steel-fabricating department. He also was a home delivery driver for the Observer-Reporter for 13 years.
Mr. Shriver was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints since 1965. He was a High Priest and served as first and second counselor under Bishop Raymond Day. Mr. Shriver also was a Sunday School superintendent and Ward Financial Clerk as well as being a Stake Missionary. In 1972, he and his wife were sealed in the Manti Temple of the church in Manti, Utah.
Mr. Shriver was vice president of Morris Township Historical Society and a former Morris Township supervisor. He enjoyed farming and was a member of the Farm Bureau.
On June 29, 1951, he married Opal Mayne, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, William P. Shriver, Jr., of Prosperity; a brother, Donald L. Shriver, of Prosperity; a grandchild, Lindsay Walker; and four great-grandchildren, Ashley, Caleb, Megan and Faith Walker.
Deceased are two brothers, Robert and Paul Shriver.
Friends will be received Thursday form 2 to 9 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Additional visitation will be held from 10 till 11 a.m., the hour of service, Friday, September 18th, in Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, with Bishop Matt North officiating. Burial will follow in Prosperity Cemetery.
