Martin Joseph Quinn, Jr., 84, of Washington, died Friday, February 27, 2009, in Humbert Lane Personal Care Home.
He was born August 22, 1924, in Lincoln Heights, Westmoreland County, a son of Martin Joseph Quinn, Sr. and Josephine Constance Owens Quinn.
Mr. Quinn graduated from Trinity High School in 1942 and attended Robert Morris College for accounting and Penn Commercial.
For 32 years, he worked in the shipping department of Ball Glass.
Mr. Quinn was a member of St. Hilary Church, Eagles 687 and the Jessop Club.
He enjoyed music and playing his guitar with his musician buddies, whom he always cherished. He also cherished his dear friends at Mike’s Feed Store.
During World War II, Mr. Quinn served in the United States Navy from March 30, 1943, until his honorable discharge on January 14, 1946, with a rank of pharmacist’s mate, second class. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon and American Theater Ribbon.
Surviving are three sons, Patrick Edward (Linda) Quinn of Ohio, Michael William (Mary Lee) Quinn and William Lawrence (Cyndi) Quinn, both of Washington; a daughter, Peggy Quinn Palfi of Washington; a stepdaughter, Bonnie (Bo) Woods of Avella; two stepsons, John (Joan) Sakerka of Washington and Joseph (Janet) Sakerka of Florida; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren; a nephew, Thomas (Karen) Quinn Jr.; and a niece, Cathy Quinn Richman.
He is also survived by best friend Harry L. Moore and long-time friend, Beverly J. Caldwell.
Deceased are three wives, Helen Thompson Quinn, Frances Rogers Quinn and Edna Lank Sakerka Quinn; a brother, Thomas William Quinn; and a sister, Peggy Frye.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation or services. Memorial contributions may be made to Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion, 168 Park Avenue, Washington PA 15301.
