Elmer Joseph Greger, 84, of Washington, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at 1:10 AM, in the Washington Hospital with his loving wife, nephew, and friends by his side. He had been ill for two years.
Mr. Greger was born in Cuddy,on November 14, 1924, a son of the late Andrew and Susan Krafcheck Greger. He was a very faithful Catholic.
He had attended South Fayette High School, and was trained in both welding and taxidermy.
Most recently, he was self employed but had previously worked at Flanery Nut & Bolt Company in Bridgeville, DEWKLA Construction and Ryan Homes.
Mr. Greger was very active in Canton Township meetings and management for many years. While serving on the Sanitation Board, he helped eliminate a very large bond 17 years early, saving township residents a great deal of money.
He was a member of L.O.O.M. # 22, the Jugoslov Club in Cloverdale, and the Claysville Sportsman’s Club. Mr. Greger was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting Grouse, Turkey and Deer. Additionally, he hunted and fished in Colorado and Michigan and was known as “ the Great White Hunter” by many.
On September 22, 1962, In Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, he married Ida Mae Shulin who survives. Also surviving are a sister, Dorothy ( John ) Podurski of Carnegie; and several nieces and nephews, including his favorite nephew Russell with whom he hunted.
Preceding him in death are four sisters, Mary Reese, Ann Kaskie, Matilda Black, and Helen Flint.
Friends of Elmer Joseph Greger, 84, of Washington, who died Sunday, March 15, 2009, will be received on Monday, from 7 to 9 and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at 11:00 AM, in Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery. The family is requesting memorial donations be made to either I.C. Church or the Hospice of donor choice.
