Virginia Douglas Larkin

Virginia D. Larkin, 79, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2009, in Adamstown, Maryland, surrounded by her family. A lifelong resident of Washington, she moved to Maryland in December 2008 to be closer to her family. She was born on February 6, 1930, to the late William E. Douglas, Sr. and Bessie Brice Douglas. She was the beloved wife of Charles E. “Chuck” Larkin for 53 years until his death on November 16, 2002 Mrs. Larkin graduated from Washington High in 1948 and worked at local Washington banks (Washington Union Trust, Mellon Bank and Integra) until her retirement in 1992. A member of St. Hilary Catholic Church, she enjoyed reading, sports, playing cards and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and friends. She is survived by her sons David (Martha) Larkin, of Hamilton Square, New Jersey, and Michael (Deborah) Larkin, of Adamstown, Maryland; and grandchildren Bryan, Kathryn, and Gregory, all of San Diego, California, Andrew and Timothy, of Hamilton Square, New Jersey, and Jeffrey Larkin, of Adamstown, MD. Also surviving is a brother William Emory Douglas (Laura) of Edgewater, FL. Her brother Richard K. Douglas predeceased her. Visitation will be on Monday, August 17th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where a blessing service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 18th, with the Rev. Thomas O’Neil officiating. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Washington Area Humane Society, P.O. Box 66, Eighty-Four, PA 15330; and/or the Citizens Library, 55 South College Street, Washington, PA 15301.
