Donald O. Seik, 95, of Washington, formerly of Eighty-Four, died on Friday, January 16, 2009, in the Standish Personal Care Home. He was born on December 2, 1913, a son of Charles and Minnie Shaffer Seik.
Mr. Seik was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Washington.
He was a local truck driver for over 20 years. Mr. Seik owned and operated the Sunoco Service Station in Eighty-Four, PA, until his retirement. After his retirement, he worked for 3 years at Eighty-Four Coal Yard.
Mr. Seik served in the United States 8th Air Force during World War II in the European Theater. For his 3 years of service, he was awarded 6 Bronze Stars.
He was the last surviving charter member of the George Washington Beagle Club. He trained beagle hunting and field trial dogs for several years. He also raised beagles and served as a field trial judge at several trials throughout the tri-state area.
On May 14, 1943, he married Lillian H. Schimmack, who died on December 26, 2001.
Two stepchildren survive him, Katherine "Kitty"쳌 Ward, of Cape Coral, FL and Harold R. Hess from Utica, MI. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. He is the last of his immediate family.
He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Alberta Schipps, Leota Gray and Elda Barringer; and 3 brothers, Willard, Howard and Norman Seik.
Visitation will be on Monday, January 19, 2009 in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, from 3-7:00 p.m. Service will immediately follow at 7:00 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Schott officiating.
Private burial will follow at a later date in the Washington Cemetery.
