Andrew F. Szallar, Jr.

Andrew F. “Andy” Szallar Jr., 81, of Washington, died April 2, 2023, in Townview Health and Rehabilitation Center, Canonsburg. He was born March 7, 1942, in Washington , the son of the late Andrew F. and Elizabeth Schumaker Szallar. A graduate of Fort Cherry High School, he worked at Mayview, Scott Metals, and retired from Consol Mine in 1982. Andy enjoyed old westerns, hunting, Kennywood, and other amusement parks. Above all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren. He loved his dogs and all animals. On June 22, 1963, Andrew married Gloria Dufresne, who survives. Also surviving are sons, Paul A. Szallar, of Greenville, and Gregory Szallar (Lori), of Washington; daughter, Christina Bushko (Michael), of Washington; brother, Joe Szallar (the late Toni), of Bridgeville; sisters, Elizabeth Yuhas (Emery), of Hickory, and Frances Koleski (the late Robert), of Oakdale; grandchildren, April Szallar (Donald Royer), Paul M. Szallar (Nicole), Nick Szallar, and Alisabeth Bushko; great-grandchildren, Kelly, Rachael, Alex, Ayden, and Hailey; and several nieces and nephews. Andy was preceded in death by his best friend Buddy. Family and friends are welcome from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Thursday, April 13, 2023 in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington where a Celebration of Life will begin at 6:00 PM, immediately following the visitation.
