Arlene S. Elliott

Mar 13, 1936 — Jul 27, 2026

Washington

Arlene S. Elliott, 90, of Washington, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 27, 2026. She lived a life defined by devotion to family, faith, and a lifelong commitment to caring for others.

Arlene was born in Avella, Pennsylvania, in March 1936, to Kenneth and Evelyn Smith. She was preceded in death by her brother Ronald and is survived by her younger brother Rex Smith of Avella.

She attended Hickory High School and graduated from Washington School of Nursing in 1957. Nursing was more than a profession for Arlene; it was her calling. For more than four decades, Arlene cared for countless patients with kindness, patience, and quiet strength.

Arlene married John A. Elliott in February 1957, and they shared nearly seven decades together, building a life centered on family, faith, and unwavering support for one another. Together, John and Arlene made homes in New Jersey and Illinois before eventually returning to Pennsylvania. Once retired, they traveled across the country and in Europe. Another passion for Arlene was her gardens. Each year she and John would grow tomatoes and zucchini, but her favorite was her flower gardens, especially the roses and snapdragons.

She leaves behind her devoted husband, John; her children, Deborah, Cynthia, and John; grandchildren Sarah and Elaine; and great-grandchildren Chase, Shannon, and Maeve, each of whom brought immeasurable joy to her life.

Nothing gave Arlene more joy than gathering her family together, especially during the holidays. Each Christmas Arlene would make large “Rudolph” cookies for family members, a tradition eagerly awaited by her children and grandchildren.

Her strong spirit, caring heart, and unwavering devotion to family will be deeply missed and forever remembered by everyone fortunate enough to know her.
