Arthur W. Hathaway, a devoted family man, distinguished leader, and beloved member of the Washington, Pennsylvania community, passed away on April 1, 2026, in his hometown where his remarkable life began on October 13, 1948. His journey was marked by dedication, brilliance, and an unyielding spirit that touched the lives of many.

Born to Arthur and Bernadine (Dodds) Hathaway, Arthur’s life was framed by strong family roots. He graduated from McGuffey High School in 1966, demonstrating early on the determination that would define his character. Pursuing higher education, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from West Virginia University in 1972, equipping him with the knowledge and skills that fueled his professional success and lifelong curiosity.

Arthur served honorably in the Army Reserves, embodying a commitment to service and country that reflected his resilient and hardworking nature. His military service was a testament to his discipline and integrity, qualities that seamlessly carried into his civilian life and career.

Arthur worked for over 40 years, at the Chapman Corporation, where his brilliant mind, relentless drive, and leadership set a standard of excellence. Those who knew him remember a man who was always pushing others to do better, striving not just for success but for continual improvement. His professional legacy is one of visionary leadership and steadfast dedication.

Outside the boardroom, Arthur was a man of passions and cherished moments spent with family. He was an avid hunter, delighting in the camaraderie and tradition of hunting with his sons and grandsons. Perhaps one of Arthur’s most joyful hobbies was truck and tractor pulling. He competed across the United States with his two-wheel-drive truck and modified mini tractor, an endeavor shared deeply with his son. This pursuit culminated in becoming a National Tractor Pullers Association (NTPA) Champion in 2014 and 2015—a proud accomplishment shared with his son.

His heart overflowed with love and pride for his family, especially his sons and grandchildren, whom he considered his proudest achievements. Arthur treasured watching his grandchildren play sports and created magical memories taking them on trips to Disney, embracing the joy and wonder of those moments together.

Arthur is lovingly survived by his devoted wife of nearly six decades, Carol (McDonough), whom he married on June 1, 1968. He leaves behind his son Jason (Lauren), cherished grandchildren Kaden, Karson, Kash, and Hannah Hathaway, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Linda and Pete Shriver, and niece and nephew Tami and Dan Shriver. Though he said goodbye to his son Gregg and his beloved parents, Arthur and Bernadine, their memories live on deeply in his heart and those of his family.
