Barbara Lou Bird, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026, in her hometown of Washington, PA. Born on December 17, 1947, Barbara’s journey was marked by unwavering dedication to her family, infectious humor, and a strong will that inspired those around her.

Barbara was a graduate of Trinity High School, Class of 1965. Her career was a testament to her tireless spirit and love of community. She devoted 20 years to working at “The Greenery” and lent her exceptional culinary talents as a cook at Jimmy’s Restaurant and “The Montarey.” Barbara’s cooking, especially during the holidays, was renowned.

Her personality was as vibrant as her passions. Known for her quick wit, no filter, and great sense of humor, Barbara could bring laughter to any room. Yet beneath this lively exterior was a caring heart, fiercely strong-willed and compassionate. Those who knew her admired both her sharp humor and her deep kindness. She had a knack for crafting, yard sales, baking, traveling, country music, church activities, and thrifting, filling her days with the simple pleasures she loved.

One of her heartfelt memories was driving a school bus for the Living Waters Church of God, ensuring her children could attend the Christian School, a gesture reflective of her devotion to family and faith. Barb and her husband Donald belong to the Living Waters Church since 1973.

She married her loving husband and best friend, Donald Raymond Bird, on June 29, 1996, a union that brought joy and companionship until his passing.

Barbara’s proudest accomplishment was always her family. She is survived by her children: Jody (Barbara) Miller, Doni Miller, Crystal (Steven) Wilk, Timothy (Rose) Bird, Tammy (“Bear”) Rutan, and Ruthann (C.K.) Kowlsen. She also leaves behind a large and loving group of grandchildren, including Ashlee (Alex) Su, Roger (Monica) Kelly II, Ryan (Corinne) Kelley, Alyssa (Cody) Gauana, Brittany Jo Miller, Andrew Miller, Peyton Miller, Freddy Hayes IV, Chloe Hayes, Alexander Wilk, Cameron Wilk, Kimberly Furmanec, Lindsay Durbin, Dylan Bird, Ashley Rutan, Becky Rutan, Tiffany Collins, Haley Kowlsen, Nathan Kowlsen, Travis (Bianca) Bird, and Andrew (Drea) Bird, as well as several great-grandchildren who will carry forward her legacy of warmth and joy.

She will also be dearly missed by her sister, Elma A. Richards; daughter-in-law Holly Bird; sisters-in-law Betty Tharp and Alice Loar; and brother-in-law William Bird, all of whom were blessed to share in her life and love.

Barbara’s passing follows the earlier loss of treasured family members: her husband Donald Raymond Bird, granddaughter Amber Miller, siblings Josephine Loar, Donald Loar, Walter Loar, and Duane Loar, stepson James Bird, and brother-in-law Lloyd “Slug” Richards. Though their absence leaves a void, her spirit remains woven into the hearts of those she touched.
