Bernice Barbara Borkowski

January 7, 1926 — June 16, 2022

Bernice B. Borkowski was released from pain by her Lord God on June 16, 2022, at Evergreen Assisted Living. She was born in Zollarsville PA on January 7, 1926, a daughter of Polish immigrants, the late Michael and Anna Podmokwa Gielata. Bernie married Walter “Fuzzy” Borkowski on August 1, 1948, and was married for 36 years, before he passed on June 5, 1985. She is survived by her “little brother,” Joseph Gielata. Bernie’s son Gary (Candi) was by her side daily providing love and care. Her grandchildren, Michael Borkowski of Canonsburg, and Roberta (Jon) Rybicki of Andover, MA were her pride and joy. Her great-granddaughter, Alexis Borkowski was her partner in crime, starting with the daily great daycare escape, and great-grandson, Nikola Rybicki filled her heart with happiness, love & laughter. She has a son Douglas Borkowski and grandchildren, Christina, Melissa, Serena & Chad from Erie, PA. Mrs. Borkowski was predeceased by sisters Mary Fidora, Sally Krupzig and Helen Craig (her best friend) and two infant brothers. Bernie touched many nieces and nephews' lives and she wanted them to know how much she loved them all. Her infectious laugh, and love of children was evident anywhere she went, and her caring nature for all she knew didn’t go unnoticed. She was known for her amazing chocolate chip cookies, that no one can seem to imitate, but everyone loved! Her caregivers at The Caring Mission, Concordia Hospice, and Evergreen Assisted Living were angels for Bernie. She also had special angels helping her, and wanted them to know how thankful she was for them. Her niece, Londa Hughes, was a loving Godsend, and Kathy Willis (Candi’s sister) always made sure she had the help she needed from Caring Mission. She also was thankful for Mabel Cross, Ernie Matthews and Bonnie Corrick who touched her life with caring. Bernie belonged to Holy Trinity National Catholic Church, where she was a 65-year member of The ANS, was a long-time choir member and spent many days making pierogies, working the Fish Fry and helping at numerous church functions. Her church was an important staple in her life, and she was part of their family. Family and friends will be received Tuesday, June 21, 2022, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington. A Celebration of Bernice’s life Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, in Holy Trinity National Catholic Church, 605 N. Hewitt Ave., Washington, with Father Mark Swoger as Celebrant. All planning to attend the Mass, are requested to meet at the church. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity National Catholic Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be sent to The ANS of Holy Trinity Parish, 605 N.
