Betty L. Thomas, 85, of Washington, passed away February 22, 2026, in Donnell House with her family by her side.
She was born February 9, 1941, in Birmingham, Alabama, a daughter of the late William Barfield and Velma Adams Barfield.
Betty moved to Washington at a young age and attended Washington High School.
She worked as a glass packer for Ball Glass.
Betty was a devout member of Nazareth Baptist Church in Washington.
She loved to spend time doing word searches, watching cooking shows and being with her family. Betty’s faith was incredibly important and central to her life. She loved reading the bible and most of all loved the Lord with all her heart.
Betty married the love of her life, John R. Thomas Sr., on September 26, 1959. They enjoyed 53 wonderful years together until he passed on October 14, 2012.
She is survived by two sons, John R. Thomas Jr. and Curtis W. Thomas Sr.; two daughters, Cynthia L. Thomas and Lorri A. (Theodore) Yuille; eight grandchildren, Curtis Thomas Jr., Travis J. Thomas, Cedric A. Thomas, Jordan C. Thomas, Bryan Thomas, Rhamir Thomas, Corey Thomas and James Thomas; 19 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Betty is preceded in death, in addition to her husband and parents, by a brother, John Barfield Sr.; and two sisters, Helen Faucher and Mackilee Harvey.
Arrangements are private and entrusted to William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd.
