Clarence “Junior” W. Allender Jr. of Washington, Pennsylvania, a U.S. Army veteran and retired steelworker, passed away on May 2, 2026.
Born on July 4, 1927, he was the son of the late Clarence Allender Sr. and Evelyn Fogle Allender and grew up in Banetown, Amwell Township. Following high school, he served in the United States Army and was stationed in the Philippines shortly after World War II.
In 1952, he married Virginia “Jeanne” F. Gigliotti. They shared 70 years of marriage until her passing in 2022. Together, they raised three sons and one daughter.
Mr. Allender began his working career at the Hazel-Atlas Glass Company glass factory and later worked at Jessop Steel Company, from which he retired in 1990.
Known for his ornery personality, he raised pigeons in his younger years and fed and watched birds throughout his life. He was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed playing cards with his family. In his later years, he was an active volunteer with Washington Christian Outreach, an organization founded by his wife.
He is survived by his four children: Daniel Allender of Etters; Mary (Jim) Helicke of Washington; Michael (Vicki) Allender of Burnsville, Minnesota; and Joseph (Rita) Allender of Claysville. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ryan, James, Matt, Dana, Hannah, Andrew, and Grace; his great-grandchildren, Morgan, Eli, Malakai, and Wyatt Rose; three great-great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Earle Allender; his sister, June Keenan; and a sister, Darlene Allender, who died in childhood.
Friends and family will be received from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m.
Clarence will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife in Washington Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Washington Christian Outreach, 119 Highland Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
