Dale G. Vilsack, born on July 18, 1953, in Pittsburgh, PA, passed away on June 30, 2026, while doing one of the things he loved most—riding his bike alongside his devoted wife. In this moment, as in so many others throughout his extraordinary life, Dale was defined by the passions, talents, and relationships that made him truly unforgettable.
Dale’s journey began in Pittsburgh, he graduated from Church Hill High School with the “Class of 1971,” and later from Point Park College, laying the foundations for a career and life rich in accomplishment and meaning. Dale went on to become a Computer Programmer for a software company, a field that suited his keen mind and methodical approach—traits evidenced in every aspect of his life.
He was fiercely independent, a man known for standing his ground and solving problems on his terms, though he always knew when to bend—especially for those he loved. To those who knew him well, Dale wasn’t the kind to show affection in grand, but rather in the countless practical acts of loyalty, support, and care, and above all in the deep love he carried for Patricia, his beloved wife. Their story began 42 years ago at the Evergreen in Point Breeze, an encounter that blossomed into a marriage filled with shared adventures and quiet moments of companionship—they wed on February 12th, 2005 and together wove a tapestry of memories.
Dale’s generosity of heart and knack for perseverance were evident in every role he took up—whether as “Mr. Fix It,” never one to call a mechanic when he could figure it out himself, or as the adventurous soul who sought experiences as bold as skydiving and snorkeling, adding color to the ordinary with unyielding curiosity and joy. He chased the sky itself, earning a private plane license, always finding new ways to challenge himself and delight in the world’s wonders. In quieter times, Dale took pleasure in model trains, a hobby that reflected his patience.
Dale is survived by his loving wife Patricia, who shared in his journeys and joys. He leaves behind his sister Linda (Rudy) Reagan, brothers Don "Chip" (Becky) Vilsack, Scott (Kim) Vilsack, and Rick Vilsack, and his sister Laurie (Ray) Guzman. The family circle also includes his wife's children; Denise, Gilbert, and grandson Ricky, and many nieces and nephews
Dale was predeceased by his dear mother, Carolyn Vilsack, whose memory continued to shape his life and values.
Described as hardworking and adventurous, Dale G. Vilsack approached every day with integrity and a quiet strength. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him. The lessons he taught—both through words and, more often, through action—resound in the lives he touched and shaped. It is in their hearts and stories that Dale’s legacy lives on, a testament to a remarkable life well lived.
Funeral and memorial arrangements are entrusted to the William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave. A Celebration of Life will take place, please check back for time and day.
