Darlene “Gram” May Dicks, 73, of Claysville, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018, in her home. She was born May 17, 1945, in Washington, a daughter of the late Albert Ostrander and Martha Charney Ostrander. Mrs. Dicks attended Trinity High School and Washington High School. A homemaker, she loved her family and granddaughters, and loved spending time with them. Her granddaughters were her pride and joy, whom she taught to always help others. She enjoyed baking and shopping with her granddaughters and playing bingo with her husband. Mrs. Dicks was a member of Claysville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as president for many years. On October 26, 1962, she married her husband of nearly 56 years, Herbert N. Dicks, Sr., who survives. Also surviving are a son, Herbert N. Dicks, Jr., of Daytona, Florida; a daughter, Carol L. (David) Hilderbrand of Claysville; two granddaughters, Jessica May Hilderbrand (Cody Gump) of Washington and Courtney Elizabeth Hilderbrand of Claysville; five sisters, Dorothy (the late Ted) Weaver, Mary Jane (the late Lawrence) Wheeler, Barbara Ward, LaVerna (Fred) Drabeck, and Martha (George) Baker; two brothers, Ken Ostrander and Ray (Melinda) Ostrander; eight step-siblings; and numerous nieces and nephews. Deceased are three brothers, Albert (Marge) Ostrander, Eugene (Belinda “Boots”) Ostrander and Don (Sue) Ostrander. She also leaves behind her beloved Dalmatian, Lucy. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Services and burial in Claysville Cemetery will be private.
