It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Donald Litman. He was born July 19th, 1960, to the late Jane Lowry Litman and Vance Litman. Don grew up on the Lowry Dairy Farm in Hickory. Although in his adult years Don left the farm, the farm never left him. One of his greatest joys was helping his brothers with the field work. He said he never missed putting a milker on a cow, but he loved working the fields.

At the time of his death, Don was a beloved school bus driver for GG&C Bus Company, affectionately known as “Uncle Don” to all of the students he transported. Throughout his life, he was known not only for his dedication to his work but also for the generosity, integrity, and compassion he showed everyone he met. Whether he was hunting, fishing, farming, or spending time with his loved ones and cheering them on, he brought joy and enthusiasm to everything he did.

Don never met a stranger. To know him was to love him. He was larger than life, not only in stature but in the way he gave his all to everyone he encountered.

His greatest joy in life, bar none, was his family. Don married the love of his life, Dawn Gregg, August 4, 1990. Together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, adventure, and countless cherished memories. Don had two daughters. Brooke (Robin) Layhue of Washington and Logan (D.J.) Kearns of Longview, Texas. He was a devoted father, coaching them in many sports and always being a solid rock they could rely on.

Don’s absolute greatest source of pride was his five grandchildren, Taylor Layhue, Morgan Layhue, Bently Layhue, Brady Layhue, and Bryce Kearns. He was their biggest supporter, never missing a wrestling match, football game, basketball game, or softball game. He sat through cheer performances, dance competitions, and recitals with so much pride. To him, there was nobody better or more talented on any team than his grandkids. He was their loving Pappy, who always gave the most comforting hugs and shared the most wise words. To his family, he was so much more than a husband, father, grandfather, and friend — he was their foundation of wisdom, love, and support.

In his years as a student at Fort Cherry High School, he was honored to receive the FFA Keystone Award. He was an active member of the FFA and enjoyed showing many different animals at the Washington County Fair. He later served as a director on the Washington County Fairboard, where he put in countless hours to improve the fair that he loved and spent so many hours participating in. He was also on the wrestling team for Fort Cherry. He was very proud of the fact that he was the 1st runner-up at the PIAA State Finals, and used that as a learning tool to pass on to the many boys he helped out in wrestling.

His warm smile, gentle heart, quick sense of humor, and selfless spirit touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and unconditional love that will continue through the generations he inspired.

He leaves behind his siblings Sarah (Donald) Dille, Larry (Myrta) Litman, and William Litman, sisters-in-law Paula (Bill) Randour and Luann Gregg, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Although our hearts are broken, we are forever grateful for the years we shared with him. Don’s love will remain with us always, and his memory will continue to guide us. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
