Dorothy Whiteman

September 29, 1933 — October 8, 2025

Washington PA

Dorothy Whiteman, a cherished member of the Washington County community, left this world on October 8, 2025, at the age of 92, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on September 29, 1933, in Washington, PA, the loving daughter of the late Harold Poland Sr. and Lavinia (Cole) Poland. Dorothy dedicated her life to her work and her family, embodying a spirit of kindness and hard work that touched all who knew her.

Throughout her career, Dorothy devoted decades of service to her community, spending 19 years at Ball Glass, and 8 years at Thepitt, before concluding her professional journey at Presbyterian Senior Care. Her commitment to her work was matched only by her devotion to her family—a true testament to her nature.

Dorothy’s kitchen was a hub of laughter and love, filled with the delightful aroma of her famous delicious cookies, hard tack candy and homemade meals.

A lifelong member of Friendship Community Church, Dorothy was a devoted Christian who made it a practice to read her Bible daily. Her faith guided her through life, bringing her peace and joy. She had a deep love for her family, leaving behind her daughter, Mary Vester Bruno, and son-in-law, David L Bruno.  Sisters share a special bond, and Dorothy's love for her sister, Deb Rydzak, and brother-in-law, Joe Rydzak, was profound. She also enjoyed the joy of being a grandmother to David (Rachael) Bruno and Angelina (Jordan) Schrader. Her legacy lives on in her great grandchildren—Olivia, Samantha, and Andrew Bruno, Zander and Xavier Warnick, Ben, Isabella, and Zach Schrader and bonus granddaughter and cousin to LaRaina Jones, and many cherished nieces and nephews, who carry forward her spirit; and three wonderful caretakers, Doris Clemens, Omani Davis and Abby Giles.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles "Sonny" Whiteman, with whom she shared a beautiful marriage beginning on June 1, 1954. Their love story remains an inspiration—a reminder of the bonds that can shape our lives. As we remember Dorothy Whiteman, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life marked by unwavering dedication, profound love, and a spirit that will forever remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Friends and family are invited to William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd, 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, PA on Monday, October 13, 2025.  Visiting hours are 2PM to 4PM and 6PM to 8PM.  Funeral Service will be officiated by Pastor Rick Brucker at 11AM on October 14, 2025, followed by burial at Washington Cemetery.
