Douglas "Doug" Roy Blacka (Doug), 80, passed away November 5, 2025 in Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. Doug was born January 16, 1945, to Roy Thomas Blacka and Ruth Alois Blacka (Brownlee) in Washington, PA. He was a graduate of Washington High School, class of 1964, where he met the love of his life, Susan K. Greene. They were married in 1965 in Washington.
In 1966 he began his career as a customer service agent with Lake Central Airlines, later Allegheny, and then US Air in Morgantown, WV. It was in Morgantown that they bought their first house and had 2 children, Tammy, 1968, and Scott, 1970. In 1979 they moved to Virginia Beach. Doug retired from US Air after 36 Years.
How do I begin to articulate the man he was? Doug was the ever present, hands on husband and father. He worked hard and loved harder. He would do and did anything for his wife and children. He led and taught by example. He passed on his incredible work ethic, compassion, empathy, sense of humor, respect for others and love for life. He taught us the importance of a job done well, no matter what the job and following through. He was honest, sometimes to a fault. You did not have to wonder about his thoughts; he would let you know. He was always there to lend an ear, be present, or give advice. His legacy will continue with these attributes and continue to be handed down through his grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Tammy White (Robert) of Virginia Beach, VA and grandchildren Katie, Sara, and Emily White of Virginia Beach; Haley Haverson of Boise ID, and Chandler Blacka of Norfolk, VA. Doug was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Susan Blacka (1998), wife of 21 years Norma Blacka (2023), parents Roy (1997) and Ruth (2006) Blacka, Son Douglas “Scott” Blacka (2019), Grandparents and countless others. In Lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The American Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society, CHKD, local food banks or St. Jude.
