Edward Winfield Brooks, 97, of Washington, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025, in Transitions Healthcare, Washington.
He was born November 2, 1927, in Washington, a son of the late Thomas and Alice Weir Brooks.
Mr. Brooks was a 1947 graduate of Trinity High School, where he played with the football team as a fullback and punter.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1947 to 1951.
Mr. Brooks worked at Annealing Steel Company in Washington as a furnace operator.
He was Baptist in faith.
Mr. Brooks loved to play softball on the Court Billiards team, winning the Washington City Championship in 1947 and again in 1949, playing for Gardner-Packard.
He loved to fish in Lake Erie, and he ran the bingo at Canton Township Fire Department for 30 years.
On December 17, 1952, he married Beatrice Geraldine Livingood, who passed away on January 13, 2019.
Surviving is a son, Edward G. Brooks.
Deceased is a brother, Charles (Phyllis) Brooks.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. There will be no services. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Canton Township Volunteer Fire Department, 700 Weirich Ave., Washington, PA 15301, or Washington Area Humane Society, 1527 PA-136, Eighty Four, PA 15330.
