Elizabeth Baumgardner, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026, in her hometown of Washington, PA. Born on July 9, 1945, Elizabeth lived a life marked by kindness, intelligence, and a generous spirit that touched all who knew her.
A proud graduate of Trinity High School’s Class of 1963, Elizabeth honored her roots in Washington, Pennsylvania throughout her entire life. She devoted over 35 years to Washington Hospital, where she worked with dedication and care until her retirement in 1999. Her career was a testament to her commitment to serving others and making a difference in her community.
Betty was known for her spunky and friendly nature, always making those around her feel comfortable and valued. She possessed a quick wit and a warm smile, qualities that made her a treasured friend and confidante. Her home was a welcoming place filled with laughter and love, where the aroma of her legendary coconut cream pie would often waft through the air—a culinary delight that family and friends still remember fondly.
Her love story is one for the ages. Through a mutual friend, Betty met the love of her life, Charles “Chuck” Baumgardner. Their first date at the Cherokee Trading Post was the start of a lifelong bond, a perfect love at first sight that blossomed into a marriage on May 25, 1985. Chuck stood by her side through all joys, sharing a partnership marked by unwavering devotion.
Betty’s passions extended beyond her career and family. She found joy in playing bingo, visiting casinos, baking delicious treats, and tending to her yard. These hobbies reflected not only her zest for life but also her nurturing nature and attention to detail.
Her family was her greatest pride and accomplishment. She is survived by her loving husband Chuck Baumgardner; her children Donald Tupi, Michael Kelley (Myrtha), Brenda Hanning (Donald), and Robyn Molinaro (Dino); nine beloved grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward her legacy of love and kindness. Elizabeth also leaves behind her sister Diane Austing (Mike), brother John Welch (Kathy), as well as numerous nieces and nephews whose lives she enriched deeply.
Betty was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Welch and Jack Welch, whose memories she cherished dearly. Her passing is mourned by all who knew her, who remember her as a beacon of warmth and strength.
Though Elizabeth has left this world, the mark she made on her family, friends, and community endures. Her kindness, spunk, and spirit will forever be woven into the hearts of those lucky enough to have known her. As her family gathers to celebrate her life, they hold close the comfort that she passed peacefully, with her loving husband at her side, just as she would have wished.
Elizabeth Baumgardner's life was a beautiful tapestry of love, dedication, and joy, a true testament to a soul who made the world just a little brighter. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. All services are private and entrusted to the William G. Neal Funeral Home 925 Allison Ave Washington PA
