Emma B. Smith, 98, of Washington, died Tuesday, July 10, 2018, in her home. She was born June 11, 1920, in Whiteley Township, Greene County, a daughter of John K. Pyles and Mary Etta Fordyce Pyles. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her children, grandchildren and extended family. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, gardening, cooking, baking, and playing with the cats, Pumpkin and Peaches. Mrs. Smith was a very active member of Avery United Methodist Church, where she was involved with fundraising and its Sew Whats Committee. On September 14, 1940, she married Raymond N. Smith, who died June 8, 1999. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara E. (Nick) Dubina and Phyllis M. Smith, both of Washington; grandchildren, Steven (Laurie) Popeck, Stefanie (Talbert) Weimer, Stacey (Scott) Schlarbaum, Nicholas (Tammi) Dubina, Jr., Shelley (Scott) Boardley, and Brent (Heather) Dubina; great-grandchildren, Trevor and Brooke Popeck, Lizzie and Annie Weimer, Dillon, Haddon, and Jacob Schlarbaum, Nicholas K., Nathan, Kara and Alan Dubina, Stefanie Boardley and Kaleb and Jalen Dubina; several nieces and nephews; a son-in-law, Anthony J. Popeck, Jr.; and brothers-in-law, Kenneth Davis of Waynesburg and George Popp of Columbus, Ohio. Deceased are a daughter, Mary “Joan” Popeck; great-grandson, Scott Boardley, Jr.; and siblings, Nellie (John) Krupzig, Pearl (Henry) Patterson, Lucy Popp, Ethel (Thomas) Holmes, Harry (Pauline) Pyles, John Pyles, Mildred Davis and Jean (Kenneth) Turner. Friends will be received on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., and Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 14th. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
