Ernest James “Ernie” Dunlap, 84, of Washington, died November 27, 2021, in Genesis-Bridgeville Rehabilitation. He was born February 23, 1937, in Carnegie, a son of the late Frank Harold Dunlap and Pearl Wojciechowski Dunlap. Mr. Dunlap graduated from Carnegie High School and The American University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Police Administration. He spent his law enforcement career with the Washington, D.C., Police Department, retiring as a sergeant. Mr. Dunlap was an avid reader who loved golfing, spending time at the beach, and camping. He also enjoyed his computer and surfing the web, loved to make people laugh by telling jokes and stories, and, most of all, loved his furry children. Over the years he had 13 dogs and 7 cats, of which one dog and six cats still survive. A veteran, Mr. Dunlap served in the Army from November 17, 1955, until his honorable discharge on November 15, 1957. On October 21, 1960, he married Dorothy L. Todino, who survives. Also surviving are a brother, Alan Dunlap of Carnegie; a sister, Marsha Mendez (James) of Carnegie; nieces and nephews, Karen Todino Taylor (Brad Klaphake), Ralph Todino (Lisa), Susan Todino Kline (John), Thomas Dunlap, Michele Schnebach (Glenn), Maureen Thomas (Troy), Shawn Dunlap (Dawn), and Heather Ptak (John); numerous other great-niece and great-nephews; and a sister-in-law, Anna Mary Dunlap. Deceased are a brother, Tom Dunlap, and two nieces, Joy Schneider and Suzanne Allen. Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., the time of a memorial service, Tuesday, December 14th, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Inurnment will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
