George John Babeji, born on July 16, 1956, in Fort Rucker, Alabama, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, in Washington, PA, surrounded by his loving family at the Donnell House. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend whose kindness touched the hearts of all who knew him.

George dedicated 32 years of his life to the United States Postal Service in Canonsburg, where he was known not only for his hard work but also for his infectious smile and unwavering kindness. He retired in 2014, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and a genuine commitment to serving others.

His high school days at Canon Mac High School, where he graduated in 1974, were marked by athletic achievements, being a proud member of the soccer team that won the WPIAL in 1972 and 1973. Subsequently, George continued to pursue his passion for the sport at Lock Haven College, where he showcased incredible talent on the field.

George's love for soccer extended beyond his playing days; he cherished coaching and sharing the joy of the game with young athletes. He was particularly proud of his role in helping his grandchildren, Jacob George and Zoey Madeline Babeji, build unforgettable memories—like the time he used cardboard boxes to craft a fort in the game room. His unyielding support and boundless energy enriched their lives, whether on the soccer field or during their cherished family outings.

He was a man of many passions—weightlifting, fishing, working in his yard and trips to Las Vegas brought him joy, but it was his gentle nature and generous spirit that defined him. Always ready with a helping hand, George was the embodiment of friendliness and warmth. He was an amazing grandfather who never said no, always making time for his family and effortlessly filling their lives with laughter and love.

George's memories will continue to be treasured by his wife, Sophie (Strnisha) Babeji; his son, Justin (Becca) Babeji; his beloved grandchildren, Jacob George  and Zoey Madeline; his mother, Shirley Ann (Pokopac) Babeji; his sister, Diana (Mark) Dorance; and his sisters-in-law, Joyce Strnisha, Linda (Martin) O'Brien, Carol O'Brien and brother-in-law, William J. Strnisha Jr. He will be also be missed by several nieces and nephews.
