George Edward Silvers, 98, of Washington, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2025, in Hawthorne Woods, Washington.
He was born March 24, 1927, in Avella, the son of the late Edward Silvers and Mary Adams Silvers.
George was a 1945 graduate of Washington High School.
He was employed at Brockway Glass for 30 years.
George was a 50 plus year member of Faith United Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Silvers was very active in Freemasonry. He was the past presiding officer and life member of Sunset Lodge 623 F&M, Washington Royal Arch Chapter #150, Washington Council #1, Jacques DeMolay Commandery #3, and Keystone Priory #26 Knights of the York Cross of Honor. He was a Most Puissant Grand Master of the Grand Council of Pennsylvania from 1994-1995 and a member of Council of Anointed Kings of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Golden Triangle York Rite College #32 receiving the coveted Order of the Purple Cross, Wa-Cha-Gree Forest 149 of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon and Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh. In 1998, he was coronated Thirty Third Degree Mason. He was a member of the Syria Shrine of Pittsburgh and Washington-Greene Caravan #2. He was a life member of Washington Elks Lodge 776, American Legion Post 175, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 22 and the Arms Club.
On September 16, 1950, he married Norma Jean Ross, who passed away March 27, 2013.
Also surviving are three sons, George Silvers Jr., David (Cindy) Silvers and Robert (Judy) Silvers; a daughter, Melody (Thomas) Butterfield; five grandchildren, Kimberly (James) Desmond, Brett Haskitt, Jessica (Kevin) Carper, Devin (Brittney) Silvers and Kara (Jimmy) Simonelli; and six great-grandchildren, Mason Desmond, Maya Desmond, Elliott, Ian and Adam Carper and Tara Silvers.
Deceased are three brothers, William Silvers, Edward Silvers Jr. and Richard Silvers and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Fenton Silvers.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2025, and from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2025, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2025, with James R. Flanigan officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. A Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
