Georgie “Jean” Murner (Neely), 89, formerly of Claysville, PA, passed away peacefully at home in Washington, surrounded by her loving daughters and caregivers, Sheila Feather and Melody McVay (Scott), on Monday, October 12, 2026.
Jean was born on November 27, 1936, in Claysville, PA, the daughter of the late George John Neely.
Jean was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Edward Murner, with whom she shared many wonderful years; her twin sister, Shirley Joan Hartzell; her brother-in-law, Edwin Hartzell; and her grandson, Cody Reed.
Jean attended Claysville High School, graduating in 1955. She dedicated much of her life to caring for others, beginning her career in various senior care facilities before eventually providing private care for her patients. Jean was known by her family and all who loved her as a hard-working, kind, generous, and compassionate woman who always put others first.
Among Jean’s most cherished memories was learning that her great-granddaughter, Emma Jean, had been named in her honor. One of her proudest accomplishments was reading the Bible cover to cover multiple times and memorizing numerous Bible verses, reflecting the importance of her faith throughout her life.
In her spare time, Jean enjoyed being outdoors, pulling weeds, tending to her flowers and plants, and caring for her yard. She also enjoyed word searches, jigsaw puzzles, and reading her Bible. Above all, Jean treasured the time she spent with her family and loved ones, who meant the world to her.
In addition to the two daughters who cared for her, Jean is also survived by daughter, Pam Arthur. She also leaves behind her three grandchildren and their spouses, Cameron Reed (Janice), Brittney Minor (Daniel); and Nicole Miller (Ross).
Jean’s legacy lives on through her eight great-grandchildren, Seith Reed, Christopher Reed, Levi Reed, Haley Reed, Hannah Ullom, Emma Jean Minor, Lucas Minor, and Robbie Lape; and one great-great-granddaughter, Tatum Reed. She is also survived by her brother, Allen Daugherty of Florida; two very dear nieces, several great nieces and nephews; and two very special women whom she loved as daughters, Paula Longstreth and Nicky Andreolli;
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and staff of Amedisys Hospice & Amedisys Home Health Care for the compassionate care and support they provided to Jean.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, PA 15301, on Thursday, October 22, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and again from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at Claysville Cemetery.
