Gerald Thomas Barrow, Jr., 75, of Washington, died Saturday, December 15, 2018, in his home. He was born July 22, 1943, in Houston, Texas, a son of the late Gerald and Loyce Palomares Barrow. Mr. Barrow graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1961 and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Houston in 1973. In addition, he completed an Associate’s degree in Computer Management from Penn Commercial in 2003. Mr. Barrow worked in maintenance at Washington Steel for 28 years. During the Vietnam War, he served in the Navy from February 3, 1967, until his honorable discharge on November 2, 1970, with a rank of Hospital Corpsman, second class. During his time in the Navy, he served as a medical corpsman with 1st Battalion, 5th Regiment of the United States Marine Corps. His awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal and a Purple Heart. He was a member of Avery United Methodist Church and enjoyed doing volunteer work for the church as well as the Boy Scouts. A Pirates fan, Mr. Barrow enjoyed reading and drawing, but most of all spending time with friends and family. On December 14, 1973, he married Suzanne Killen, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Matthew (Andrea) Barrow of Lititz and Michael (Stephanie) Barrow of Rices Landing; five grandchildren, Evan, Ryan, Peighton and Reid Barrow, and Evan Stingle; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased is a brother, John Barrow. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, December 20th with Rev. Erik Hoeke officiating. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Avery United Methodist Church, 1100 Gabby Avenue, Washington, PA 15301, or to Concordia Hospice, 10 Leet Street, Washington, PA 15301.
