Gerald Charles Vonscio

Gerald Charles VonScio, 83, of Washington, died on June 12, 2022, in UMPC Hospital, Oakland. He was born on October 1, 1938, in Washington, a son of the late Gerald Charles and Ina Marie Bennet VonScio. A Trinity High School graduate, Mr. VonScio went on to graduate from Penn Commercial Business/Technical School. A veteran of the United States Navy, Mr. VonScio served with Mobile Construction Battalion #1, better known as the Seabees, from June 19, 1956 until his honorable discharge as a Construction Electrician’s Mate Petty Officer Second Class, on September 17, 1959. Following his service in the United States Navy, Gerald served with the United States Navy Reserves, where he achieved the rank of Chief. He was a member of Friendship Community Church. A dedicated, hardworking man, Gerald worked for more than fifty years for Pennsylvania Transformer Technology, Inc. Gerald was very creative and artistic, and he enjoyed painting landscapes, and was a talented wood carver. He enjoyed the peacefulness of fishing, and loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, where he was their number one fan. On August 8, 1964, he married the love of his life, Connie Hartley, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Kevin (Marcy) VonScio; a brother, Robert (Laverne) VonScio; and four grandchildren, Christopher, Drew, Kyle, and Nicholas. Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a son, Keith VonScio; and two sisters, Joanie VonScio and Vickie Sue Briggs. Friends and family will be received on Saturday, June 18, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., the time of service, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA, with Pastor Rick Bruckner officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Washington Area Humane Society, P.O. Box 66, Eighty Four, PA 15330.
