Gilbert James Haney

Gilbert James Haney, 93, of Washington, passed away peacefully at his home with his loved ones by his side on September 15, 2026.

He was born on March 6, 1933, in Washington, he was the son of the late Robert A. Haney Sr. and Margaret Schriver Haney. Most of his young life was spent in the Wolfdale area.

Gilbert attended Trinity High School, class of 1951, and went on to work for Hazel Atlas Glass Company and Coca Cola before joining Jessop Steel as a millwright. He stayed with Jessop for 45 years, through their transition to ATI, and retired in 1996 out of specialties department.

He was Presbyterian by faith, attending North Buffalo Presbyterian Church through the years.

When it came to hobbies and interests, Gilbert was a storied gentleman with a great love of the outdoors. In 1956, in the basement of his home, he and a group of friends from Jessop started the Golden Pheasant Sportsman’s Club, a shooting range group who met many times through the years. Gilbert was the last surviving original member. He also was a part of a hunting camp in northern Pennsylvania called “Chillyfoot”, where more treasured stories and memories were made with dear friends. Gilbert loved taking hunting trips with friends, going to Colorado, Maine, New Brunswick, and Canada. If he wasn’t hunting, Gilbert could also be found camping and boating, loving a day on the water at Deep Creek or the Youghiogheny Dam. Music was another faucet of Gilbert’s life that he enjoyed greatly, going with his dear companion Paula to Jamboree in the Hills, a country western music festival in St. Clairsville, OH. One final unforgettable quirk of Gilbert’s was his love of pranks. If you were in his life, you were getting a trick played on you! His zest for life and laughter truly fueled countless memories and times spent together in smiles.

He is survived by his beloved longtime companion, Paula D. Clark, with whom he had shared his life for 57 years.

Also surviving are a son, Barry (Debbie) Clark; daughters, Doris Bredniak and Rosemarie (Ray) Noble; grandchildren, Brian Noble, Valerie Lowe, Marcia (Jason) Bell, Rosetta Eakin, Samantha (Andrew) Lancaster, Shianne (Pat) Jennings, Michaela Scott, and Wyatt Scott; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and a special nephew, Denny Grim.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Gump; a grandson, Adam Clark; brothers, Robert Haney and Willard Haney; and a sister; Betty Jean Grim.
