H. Louise (Pettit) Walker Gallagher, 98, of Washington, formerly of Claysville and Sycamore, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2025, in her daughter’s home.
She was born on December 20, 1926, in Waynesburg, a daughter of the late Russell B. Pettit and Gwendola Olive (Penn) Pettit.
Helen attended Sycamore School.
She had worked at Claysville Grade School and McGuffey School District for 12 and a half years in the facility maintenance department.
Helen was a member of Friendship Community Church. She was also a member of the Claysville American Legion Post 639 and Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175 for over 50 years.
She enjoyed ceramics and playing dartball and bingo. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Surviving are two daughters, Ruth Ellen Roney of Avella, and Sue (Jeffrey) Ware of Houston, Pennsylvania; a stepson, Jeff (Jodi) Gallagher of Washington; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are her first husband, Frederick L. Walker, who passed away in 1983; her second husband, John “Andy” Gallagher, who passed away in 1995; a son, Bryan D. Walker, who passed in 2024; a stepson, John Gallagher, who passed away in 2021; two brothers, Howard Pettit and Kenneth Pettit; a sister, Martha Jean Herrod; and a son-in-law, Jim Roney.
Family and friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 21, 2025, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 22, 2025, with Pastor Rick Bruckner officiating. Interment will follow in Oakmont Cemetery, Waynesburg.
