Harry Denver “Joe” Cogar Sr., 87, of Waynesburg, passed away November 26,2025, in Premier Washington, surrounded by his family.
He was born April 7, 1938, in Beverly, West Virginia, a son of the late Walter Cogar and Audrey Shirley Howard Cogar.
“Joe” was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, Local #2874, working for Bethlehem Steel from 1972 up until 1988 when the mines closed.
In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joe was a great outdoorsman and loved taking his family “ginseng-ing”, where they would go to new areas and forage for the ginseng plant to collect and sell to local businesses for use. There were many cherished family stories shared that capture the magic of those adventures.
He was also a member of Landmark Baptist Church in Waynesburg.
On June 20, 1959, he married Wilda Jean Nitz Cogar, who survives. They spent 66 loving years together.
“Joe” is also survived by two sons, Harry D. “Joe” (Tracy) Cogar II and Rodney Dale Cogar I; a daughter, Denise Robison; nine grandchildren, Kelli (Ryan) Benner, Derrick Cogar, Summer (Jamie) Cogar, Christina “Tina” Robison, Mark (Betty) Robison II, Stevie (Mel Matsick) Robison, Melanie (Brian) Mishler, Caleb Cogar, and Rodney Dale (Madison Weiblinger) Cogar II; ten great-grandchildren, Cyler, Maelyn, Castiel, Elizabeth, Jeania, Irridessa, Sabrina, Mark III, Luffy, Liliana; and one great-grandbaby boy due January 2026; daughter-in-law, Debra Cogar; and many nieces, nephews, friends and family.
He is preceded in death by two sons, Denver Eugene Cogar and Roger Allen Cogar; great-granddaughter, Haylee Shriver; and six siblings, Robert Cogar, Denzil Cogar, Hilda Cameron, Franklin Cogar, William Cogar, and Paul Cogar.
The family would also like to extend a special thank you for the wonderful level of care displayed by the staff at Premier Washington.
Friends and family will be received from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2025 in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025, with Pastor Arnold Watts officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
