Helen Kopko Skariot, 93, of Washington, died on Tuesday, January 1, 2019, in the Washington Hospital. She was born on May 23, 1925, in Washington, a daughter of the late Mike and Julia Kozdra Kopko. She attended Washington High School. A lifelong member of Holy Trinity National Catholic Church, Helen served on the Parish Committee and the Building Committee. For over fifty years, she was a member of the Ladies Adoration Society, where she served as president for over thirty years. Mrs. Skariot was very active in the church, making pierogies and parish dinners, and was the alter caretaker, responsible for the care and arrangement of the flowers and linens. A natural caretaker, Helen took care of everyone, including, and especially, the children in the family, and her siblings. She enjoyed game shows, sewing, puzzle books and baking. On February 1, 1957, she married Thomas “Bay” Skariot, who died on July 3, 2006. Surviving are a son, Tom A. Skariot, of Washington; a daughter, Janine R. Skariot (the late Marty) Ware, of Washington; a brother, Edward Kopko, of Washington; a sister. Irene Provins, of Washington; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews; and her wonderful caregivers, Eva Byers, Paula Henry and Pat Smith. Also surviving are her nephew and niece, Jason and Valerie Loughman, whom she was especially close with, and their children, Julia and Leo. Deceased are three brothers, Joe, Leo and Walter Kopko, and a brother who died in childhood, Stanley Kopko; five sisters, Mary Shuba, Caroline Bonus, Bertha Ward, Stella Belcastro and Jennie Kopko; and a sister who died at birth. Friends will be received on Thursday, January 3, 2019, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA. There will be a Ladies Adoration Society (ANS) on Thursday, at 5 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 4, 2019, at 10:00 a.m., in Holy Trinity National Catholic Church, 605 N. Hewitt Ave., Washington, with Father Mark Swoger as Celebrant. All who plan to attend the service are asked to meet at the church. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
