James Keightly Murphy, 93, of Washington, died June 22, 2022, in Southmont of Presbyterian Senior Care. He was born July 22, 1928, in Washington, the son of the late James Henry and Ida M. Koontz Murphy. Mr. Murphy left high school toward the end of WW2 to serve his country on the U.S. Coast Guard Motor Lifeboat “Invincible”. He then returned to Washington High School, graduating in 1947. He worked for West Penn Power for 41 years, retiring as a supervisor. He was also a Constable in South Strabane for 36 years. James attended Washington Alliance Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and traveling to Florida; was an avid Steelers fan; and was involved with United Cerebral Palsy of Western PA. James was an exceptional cook, not only for his family, but for the clubs where he was a member. He was president of the Arms Club, and member of Elks Lodge 776, American Legion Post 175, VFW 191, and the Moose Lodge. On September 3, 1954, James married June Morflak, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, James K. Murphy, Jr. (Sue), and Jeffrey K. Murphy (Jackie); two daughters, Jani K. Hamm (Doug) and June K. Flint (Eric); a sister, Charlotte Allen (Bill); nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. At the request of the deceased, all services were private.
