James Stephen "Jim" Olesky

James Stephen “Jim” Olesky, 77, of Washington, passed away on September 18, 2026.

He was born on June 10, 1949, in Washington, he was the son of the late Steve James Olesky and Helen Ann Kurpiel Olesky.

James was a 1967 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School and went on to work for Bethlehem Steel Mine as a coal miner. He stayed employed with them through their transition to Consol Energy.

Jim was Catholic by faith, a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church of Saint James Parish.

James took pride in his work as a miner, being a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was also a member of the Alpine Club and the Washington Sportsmen Association. Throughout his life, James enjoyed bowling, golfing, hunting, fishing, and most of all, spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his son, Stephen James (Shelby) Olesky of Monongahela; his daughter, Lauren Michelle (Travis) Gibbons of Irwin; and his beloved granddaughters, Aria and Lainey Gibbons. James especially cherished his role as a grandfather and the time he spent with Aria and Lainey.

Also surviving are his sisters, Barbara Dille of Prosperity and Judy Reese of Washington; as well as numerous cherished nieces and nephews.

Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
