John R. Byers Sr.

John R. Byers Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the age of 85. 

Born March 2, 1940, in Washington, John lived a life full of love, dedication, and an unwavering spirit that touched the lives of many.

John was of 1 of 25 to the late Lemuel M. Byers and Viola (Porter) Byers. He shared a wonderful life with his late wife, Sylvia N. (Renz) Byers, who was a significant part of his journey through life they married on March 2, 1961. Together, they built a family that continues to thrive and honor their legacy.

John is survived by his loving children: John Byers Jr. and his wife Glenna, Sharon Byers, Daniel Byers, Robert Byers Sr. and his wife Kim. His grandchildren, Jake (Rose) Miller, Calla (Wylie Roupe) Byers, Kohl Johnson, Bobby Lee Byers, and Danielle (Matthew) Patterson, several great grandchildren his brothers Bernard Byers and Russell Byers and many nieces and nephews.  

John also had the pleasure of sharing his life with his devoted companion, Donna Boone, and his best friend, Dave McVay, who, he shared a bond of friendship that lasted through the years.

John retired as a Large Finisher from Cooper Industries.  He had a very dangerous job, but it never bothered him to climb into an electric transformer, making sure it was working properly for the city of Canonsburg PA.     John enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, wood carving, dancing and singing to Kitty Wells who he got to meet, puzzles, hunting, and "Dads" Root Beer.  He was a gold coat member of the Washington PA Moose and Trinity Bible Fellowship.  

John R. Byers Sr. will be remembered not only for the familial roles he played but also for the warmth and kindness he extended to all who knew him. His legacy of love and happiness lives on through his family and cherished friends, ensuring that his memory will forever be celebrated.  

Friends are invited to the William G. Neal Funeral Home 925 Allison Ave. Washington PA 15301, on Thursday July 24, 2025, from 2PM to 4PM and 6PM to 8PM.  A funeral service will take place on Friday July 25, 2025, at 10AM at the funeral home with Pastor Micheal Roach officiating.
