John “Buster” Lynch III, 83, of Washington, passed away Friday, February 6, 2026.
He was born July 9, 1942, in Washington, a son of the late John William Lynch II and Lucille Carlisle Lynch.
Buster was a 1961 graduate of Washington High School and attended the University of Wyoming on a football scholarship.
He was a machinist and retired from ATI in 2008, after having worked for several other local companies.
Buster was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
He played for the Washington Merchants Football team, a semi pro team active from 1961 to 1962. The team was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, Washington/Greene County Chapter in 1999.
Buster enjoyed gardening, watching sports, and college football. He loved the Steelers and spending time with his family and friends.
On August 12, 1972, he married Celeste Monaco Lynch, who survives. They spent 53 wonderful years together.
Also surviving are a son, Patrick (Kylie) Lynch; a daughter, Tera (Mike) Lauderbaugh; two grandchildren, Kendall Brownlee, and Ava Lauderbaugh; a sister, Joan Piatt; two nephews, Donald (Sunny) Piatt, and Robert (Liz) Piatt; and a niece, Christi (Kevin) Telep.
Deceased are his in-laws, Edward and Dora Monaco, and two brothers-in-law, Edward and Dean Monaco.
Family and friends will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2026, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2026, with Pastor Don O’Hare officiating. Interment will follow in Venice Cemetery, McDonald.
