John Edward Frederick “Big Daddy” Tarr, Sr., 87, of Washington, died Tuesday, October 9, 2018, in his home. He was born July 20, 1931, in Washington, a son of the late Edward E. and Agnes Rowe Tarr. A graduate of Trinity High School, Mr. Tarr was inducted into the PA Sports Hall of Fame for his participation with Trinity’s 1949 football team. He served in the Navy and was the founder of Tarr Concrete. Mr. Tarr was a 54-year member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 and a lifetime member of VFW and the Arden Club. In addition, he was a Free &Accepted Mason, 32nd degree, and a member of the Shrine. He is survived by Patricia Tarr of Washington; five children, Georgianna Tarr (John Gebhardt), John Tarr, Jr. (Cathy), Thomas Tarr, Sr., (Pam), and Peggy Lee Tarr, all of Washington, and Jaimie Tarr of Simpsonville, South Carolina; eight grandchildren, John E. Tarr III, Randy Tarr (Misty), Bo Tarr, Maranda Tarr, Nikki Tarr (Ben Cooper), Coty Tarr (Ashlee Gray), Kyle Tarr and Tarra Finch (Rusty); five great-grandchildren, Brodie Tarr, Landen Tarr, Aidan Tarr, Mason Amos, and Tomilynn Tarr; a great-grandson expected soon, Jesse Edwin Finch; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a grandson, Thomas E. Tarr, Jr., and siblings, Thomas Tarr and Agnes “Sis” Hepinger. Mr. Tarr will be missed by his beloved dog, Buddy. Friends will be received on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 5 till 8 p.m., the time of service, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. At 6 p.m., military rites will be accorded at the funeral home by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
