Kathy L. Gibson

Kathy L. Gibson, 76, of Washington, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 2, 2026, surrounded by her loving family, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on July 4, 1950, in Waynesburg, Kathy was the cherished daughter of the late Russell D. and Louise Stuck. She spent her childhood attending Lone Pine and Seventh Ward Elementary Schools and graduated from Trinity High School with the Class of 1969. Following graduation, she continued her education and graduated from Computer School in Pittsburgh.

Throughout her working years, Kathy dedicated herself to serving others through her employment with Brockway Glass, Washington Hospital, New York Life Insurance, Trinity High School, and Hills Department Store, where she ultimately retired.

On November 20, 1971, Kathy married the love of her life, Pastor Gary A. Gibson, at Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church. Together, they shared nearly 55 years of devotion, partnership, and cherished memories. Their marriage was enriched by a love of travel, taking them to destinations such as England, Scotland, the Netherlands, Charleston, and many other places. They especially enjoyed traveling with their dear friends, Dr. John B. and Susan D. Witty of Charleston, South Carolina, as well as participating in bus tours with the Employee Travel Club of Washington and taking numerous cruises. Countless treasured beach vacations with family and friends also became lasting memories.

A woman of deep faith, Kathy was a devoted member of East Buffalo Presbyterian Church and also worshiped at North Buffalo Presbyterian Church, where she faithfully sang in the choir for 25 years.

Kathy possessed a creative spirit and found great joy in a variety of crafts, including crocheting, sewing, knitting, and making beautiful Christmas wreaths during the holiday season. One of her greatest pleasures was creating handmade baby blankets for each new addition to the family. She was an avid reader whose love of books carried her to distant places and adventures through every page she turned.

She also enjoyed bowling, card games, and spending time at the gym with her friends from Dogwood Acres. Kathy was a dedicated supporter of the Washington County American Cancer Society, actively participating in Relay For Life, Dinner Dances, and Daffodil Days.

Above all else, Kathy treasured her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her one and only granddaughter, Melia Nicole King. Whether they were shopping, baking cookies, crafting together, or searching for the next great bargain, "Nini" and Melia shared a special bond filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. You can bet if there was Kohl’s Cash to be spent “Nini” and Melia would be there! “Nini” was one of Melia’s greatest cheerleaders on and off the softball field.

Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband, Pastor Gary A. Gibson; her loving daughters, Melissa L. Gibson and Nicole L. King; her son-in-law, Douglas S. King; her loving granddaughter, Melia N. King; and her sister, Beverly A. Brundige of Stockbridge, Georgia.

Kathy's kindness, gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and love for her family and friends will be remembered by all who were blessed to know her. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched through her compassion, generosity, and enduring devotion to those she loved.

Family and friends will be received at William G. Neal Funeral Home, 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., and on Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., when a funeral service will be held.

In accordance with the family's wishes, interment will be private.

"Well done, good and faithful servant." Kathy's loving presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
