Kenneth W. “Tom” McConnell, 83, of Washington, passed away peacefully at home, on Monday, December 24, 2018, with his family by his side. He was born on December 15, 1935, in Claysville, a son of the late Leslie McConnell and Iva Morrison McConnell. Mr. McConnell attended Trinity High School, and served in the National Guard for nine years. He worked at J & L Steel for five years, and retired from Jessop Steel following 37 years of employment. Tom was an avid fisherman and hunter, who enjoyed hunting with his nephews Ed Maxwell and Dan McConnell. He was a member of the Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion, the Arms Club, and a life member of the Washington Sportsman’s Club, where he was an accomplished skeet shooter, having shot 100 straight, in 12, 20, 28 and 410 gauges. On April 6, 1957, he married Priscilla Knestrick, who survives. They had celebrated over 61 years of marriage. Also surviving are a daughter, Sally (John) Ganster; two sons, Kenneth W. (Jody) McConnell, Jr., and Bryan (Gwen) McConnell; five grandchildren, Travis (Samantha) Ellwood, Jared Ellwood, Megan (Kelly) Vess, Grant McConnell and Marlie McConnell; three great grandchildren, Logan McConnell, Parker Ellwood and Conner Ellwood; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers, Leslie (Eleanor), Raymond (Lois), William (Peg), and Ralph (Merla) McConnell; and four sisters, Verla (Jim) Post, Opal (Wade) Dorsey, Ruth (Ralph) Maxwell and Connie (John) Pettit. Honoring his wishes, there will be no public services. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
