Leona M. DeWalt

Aug 12, 1944 — Jul 20, 2026

Leona M. DeWalt, born on August 12, 1944, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Leona’s life was a rich tapestry woven with devotion, kindness, and unwavering faith. As a graduate of Canon Mac, Class of 1962, she carried the values learned in her youth into every chapter of her remarkable life. She found her calling in the home—as a homemaker, she became the very heart of her family, offering steadfast support and gentle guidance to all who were blessed to know her.

Her faith was central to her being. Leona devoted herself to service as a member of Peters Creek Evangelical Presbyterian Church and formerly belonged to the Central Assembly of God in Houston, PA. She loved the Lord deeply, and her faith was evident in the way she lived: loving, kind, and compassionate, Leona exemplified what it means to walk with grace. She cherished giving Bibles to anyone eager to learn, believing in the transformative power of the Word.

A gifted seamstress and quilter, Leona’s hands were never idle—she created beauty in everyday moments. She was an accomplished oil painter and watercolor artist, pouring creativity and care into every brushstroke. In the kitchen, she shone as an amazing cook and baker, filling her home with warmth, delicious aromas, and comfort for her family. There was always room at her table, and she delighted in family gatherings, reveling in the laughter and togetherness they brought. Leona’s love extended beyond her immediate family, and she made her daughter-in-law’s wedding dress—a precious symbol of her devotion and skill.

Shopping for the perfect gift or thoughtful item on Amazon was just another of Leona’s simple joys, reflecting her love for bringing little sparks of happiness to others. To those who knew her, she was thoughtful and selfless, always putting others before herself. Her gentle spirit enriched the lives of everyone who crossed her path.

On October 24, 1985, Leona married her dear husband Duane DeWalt, with whom she shared many years of love and partnership until his passing. Leona was proudest of the family they built together—a true source of her boundless joy and unfaltering love.

Leona is lovingly remembered by her children: Michael (Denise) Dhans, Bob Dhans, and Paulet (Craig) Lang. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Michaela Jackanic, Mackenzie Dhans, Christina Megyesy, Kylie Miller, as well as her 8 precious great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, June Simpson, niece Tammy (Patrick) Johnson and 3 great nephews.

She now joins in eternal peace her beloved husband, Duane DeWalt; her cherished daughter, Bernadette Dhans; her parents, William Beadling and Ethel Wicks Beadling; and her brother, Billy Joe Beadling.

Friends and family are invited to the William G. Neal Funeral Home on Wed. July 29, 2026 from 12PM to 4PM at time of service.  Burial will be private.
