Letitia Butera

Letitia Butera, a devoted caregiver and cherished Mother and Nana, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026, in Washington, Pennsylvania. Born on October 24, 1946, in Washington, PA, Letitia dedicated her life to the service of others, working as a Certified Nursing Assistant in long-term nursing facilities for over 30 years. Her commitment to providing compassionate care earned her deep respect and admiration throughout her community.

She attended Trinity High School, Letitia furthered her education to become a CNA, a role in which she found profound purpose and fulfillment. Known for her caring nature, she approached her work with a kindness and warmth that left a lasting impact on those she assisted.

Letitia was a woman of many talents and passions. She was an exceptional baker, renowned for her chocolate chip cookies, pumpkin rolls, and delightful lady locks. Her culinary gifts brought joy not only to her family but also to friends and neighbors who eagerly anticipated her homemade treats.

Her love for New Mexico, particularly Santa Fe and Albuquerque, was a defining element of her life. So captivated was she by the region’s culture that she amassed a beautiful collection of Native American pottery, a hobby that brought her considerable pleasure and connection to a place she treasured deeply.

Family was the true cornerstone of Letitia’s life. She was a proud and loving mother to Charles (Nancy) Butera, Tracy (John) Markle, and Anthony Butera. Her greatest pride, however, was in her role as Nana. She lavished love and attention on her grandchildren, Matthew (Ashley) Markle, Tyler (Melinda) Markle, Kyle, Regan, Eraca, and Emma Butera, Kyleigh Parr, and Shyann Parr. Letitia was equally devoted to her great-grandchildren, Alexis, Kaylynn, Madalynn, Ashlynn, Ava, Wetzel, Joey, and Waylon, cherishing every moment spent with them.

Described by those who knew her as caring, stubborn, welcoming, and kind, Letitia’s personality was as rich and enduring as the pottery she collected. She embraced her role as Nana with joy and was known for her warm spirit and willingness to open her heart and home to others.

Letitia was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Mark and Ella (Thompson) Swan, and her husband, Ronald Butera, whom she married on April 24, 1965, and who passed away on August 5, 2018. The legacy of love and dedication she shared with her family remains a testament to her character and life’s work.

Her passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew her, but the memories of her kindness, her baking, and her vibrant spirit will continue to shine brightly. Letitia Butera’s life encapsulates the essence of devotion—to family, to care, and to living fully with warmth and grace. She will be remembered with deep affection and respect.

Friends and family are invited to the William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., on Thursday April 2, 2026 from 11AM to 1PM.  Prayers at 1PM followed by burial to follow at Washington Cemetery.
