Loretta Couts, a radiant soul whose presence was as unforgettable as the exquisite meals she lovingly prepared, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026, in Washington, Pennsylvania. Born on October 21, 1930, in West Virginia, Loretta carried with her the grace and warmth that would define every facet of her remarkable life.
A proud high school graduate, Loretta embraced the world with a caring heart and a sweetness that touched all who knew her. She was a classy lady, always looking like a million bucks, her coiffure impeccably done every week, a testament to her unwavering poise and elegance.
Loretta’s career was marked by determination and dedication as she owned and worked at H.L. Restaurant in Washington, PA. Her culinary talents were legendary; family and friends would gather eagerly for her Thanksgiving dinners, renowned as some of the best ever made.
Music and dance were the rhythms of her soul. Loretta played the guitar and sang country music with heartfelt passion. She cherished dancing with her late husband, Edward Charles Couts, sharing moments of joy and love that would echo through the years since their marriage on October 30, 1973, until his passing on November 20, 2005.
Her commitment to community shone through her proud involvement in the women’s auxiliary of the Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 American Legion, a cause close to her heart and spirit.
Loretta is lovingly remembered by those who remain: her step-son Charles (Susan) Couts, brother Bobby Richard (Paulette) Harris, sisters Sharon (Harris), sister-in-law Angeline Harris, niece Mary Esselstyn, and grandson John Patrick Boros. She joins in eternal rest her beloved parents Emery and Edna (Litton) Harris; husband Edward; son John Heer; and brothers Kenneth “Kenny” Harris and Charles Harris, whose memories are enshrined in the hearts of all who loved them.
In every note of a country song, every tender dance step, and every shared meal, Loretta’s spirit will continue to shimmer—a caring, loving, sweet, and classy lady whose life we celebrate with profound gratitude and love.
