Major Margaret Allen, a leading light of the Washington PA community, passed away peacefully in her home on January 21, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on September 22, 1945, in Washington PA, she dedicated her life to serving others through her unwavering commitment to the Salvation Army. As a life member of the Salvation Army Washington PA Worship Center, Margaret's contributions as an officer and director/Chaplain were invaluable, particularly in her work with men recovering from alcohol addiction. Her compassionate spirit and supportive nature touched countless lives, reflecting the heart of a true servant leader.
Margaret's influence extended beyond the walls of the church; she was known for her ability to connect with people on social media, offering encouragement and advice to those in need. Fondly referred to as "Church Grandma," she ministered and mentored many within the community. Her dedication to helping others was evident in every aspect of her life, as she always put others before herself, embodying a caring and thoughtful personality that drew people toward her warmth.
A proud graduate of Trinity High School, Margaret's spirit shone brightly not only in her professional life but also in her personal pursuits. She had a profound love for connecting with people, which she demonstrated with every post and message shared on social media. Her passion for community service was one of her proudest accomplishments, and her legacy will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
Margaret is survived by cherished her family, her brother, William (Rhonda) Allen Sr., and sister, Helen Allen. Margaret was a cherished aunt to her nephew, Ralph Allen, and William (Sara) Allen Jr., as well as her nieces Sue Allen and April (Matt) Bobrowski. She took great pride in her role as a great-aunt to Sibyl Allen Moore, RJ (Chelsea) Allen Jr., Emily A. Allen, Emily Ann Allen,Teegan Allen, and Elizaveeta IIyankoff. She leaves behind her beloved companion, Bandit, who brought her endless joy and her friends at the Salvation Army Washington Corps Worship Center.
She is also remembered fondly by her friends Lt. Thomas Perez and Major Erin Perez, who shared in her mission to uplift and assist others in their times of need.
Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Alvin and Anna (Bell) Allen. Though she has departed from this world, her legacy of kindness, supportive spirit, and dedication to serving others will forever remain imprinted on the hearts of those she touched. Major Margaret Allen will be dearly missed but always remembered as a guiding light in the lives of many.
